Older people in the county are set to get a new lease of life as a service has been launched specifically to help motivate them to enjoy life. Set up by experienced social care workers, Assente Assists offers one-to-one motivational help for people over 50 in Gloucestershire, and has created 8 new jobs in the process.
Director Colette O’Neill explains, “This is less about having a bath than it is about having a life. There’s a big difference between people having their basic needs met and people having a life they love. What we do is to work with older people on an individual basis to work out what they love doing – not what they need doing. Then we help them do it, on a tailored, pay-as-you-go basis. It could be a weekly trip to see a friend, a canal cruise or learning how to use the internet. Whatever makes their heart soar is what we aim to make happen.”
The service is designed to complement the traditional social care landscape, and to offer a different level of help at an affordable price of £15 per hour plus any expenses. For more information visit www.assenteassists.co.uk or call 01452 544 063.
