June 2009: GAINING CONFIDENCE, IMPLEMENTING CHANGES, MAKING PROGRESS

We've supported a manager recently who has a recruitment strategy and performance management framework that needed developing. It needed writing down to enable the organisation to benefit from the process developed. It needed to meet the needs of the particular organisation as well as providing evidence so that they could gain a quality assurance award. It needed to be put into practice so that what was happening operationally reflected the paperwork developed and this involved observation and feedback in a developmentally constructive way.

What the client said:

“I wanted to improve the quality of supervision and appraisal for our Volunteer Advocates at GOPA. Colette talked through our current supervision and appraisal processes with me and helped me see what needed to be improved. She made me realize that the skills were already in the organisation, it was just a case of being more focused and having a more formal approach. Colette and I worked together to develop a document brief detailing the whole process from induction to appraisal. Before the work was undertaken, I was unsure of my ability to do appraisals, but with the added clarity that the consultancy afforded me I became much more confident. I am now adapting the document for the paid staff and other volunteers in the organisation and it will help greatly towards our goal of gaining the PQASSO quality standard.”

"A lot more knowledgeable and confident in the role and boundaries of being a confident advocate."
